It’s the end of the Fermanagh GAA Club season this weekend with a number of high profile games.
The major game will take place on Saturday night under lights in Enniskillen with the Division 1 League Final between Derrygonnelly and Teemore.
Sunday sees a relegation playoff in Division 1 and a promotion clash in Division 2. Two sides will guarantee themselves Division 1 football for 2017 while two will have to make do with Division 2 football next season.
Throw in a SFL Division 3 League Final, Reserve B Championship Final and an Under-16 Division 4 league final and it’s another busy period for clubs in the County.
Reserve B Football Championship
Sat, 15 Oct, Venue: Maguiresbridge, (Final), Enniskillen Gaels V Kinawley Brian Borus 16:00, Ref: John Murphy = A re-run of the Reserve Division 2 league Final and it’s looking like this game could go either way again. Both teams were well ahead in the race for promotion to next seasons Division 1 and both will want to go up as league winners.
Senior Football League Division 1
Sat, 15 Oct, Venue: Brewster Park, (Final), Teemore Shamrocks V Derrygonnelly Harps 19:30, Ref: Seamus Breen = Derrygonnelly are in the hunt for an incredible ‘Double, Double’ while Teemore are in search for a first Division 1 league crown since 2003. The Harps go in as favourites but will know Teemore have a great blend of experience and youth at the moment with players like Niall Clarke, Cian McManus and Eoin McManus the future of the Shamrocks. Derrygonnelly have form players in Leigh Jones (pictured), Garvan McGinley, Declan Cassidy and Ryan Jones.
Sun, 16 Oct, Venue: Derrygonnelly, (Relegation Play Off ), Maguiresbridge St Mary’s V Devenish St Mary’s 13:00, Ref: Eugene Mc Donagh = Devenish have not tasted Senior Division 2 football since 1982 and they will make sure that record stays for another year at least with a win on Sunday. Maguiresbridge were hampered quite a bit with the involvement of so many Fermanagh hurlers in their squad this season and this has all the ingredients of being one hell of a game at the Derrygonnelly venue on Sunday. The loser goes to Division 2 for 2017, the winner stays in Division 1.
Senior Football League Division 2
Sat, 15 Oct, Venue: Lisnaskea, (Division 3 Final), Derrylin O’Connell’s V Aghadrumsee St McCarran’s 16:00, Ref: Joseph Corcoran = A Division 3 league title is on offer for both these clubs and the chance to go into next seasons Division 2 with a bit of confidence.
Sun, 16 Oct, Venue: Shamrock Park, (Promotion Play Off), St Patrick’s Donagh V Lisnaskea Emmett’s 13:00, Ref: Kevin Donnelly = A big derby encounter with the winner securing Division 1 football for 2017. St Patricks Donagh sailed throughout the league but will go into the game after a defeat in the Division 2 league final to Kinawley. For Lisnaskea it looked like they had blown their chances with a relatively poor start to the campaign but they somehow managed to pull things together and finished fourth in the league with a good finish. A tough game to call with the winner having major bragging rights at the end and a Division 1 place.
U16 Division 4
Sun, 16 Oct, Venue: Donagh, (FINAL), Enniskillen Gaels Development V St. Gerard’s 13:00, Ref: Shane McGoldrick = The numbers at Enniskillen Gaels show no signs of dwindling and the County town side have the luxury of having a development team at Under-16 level. St Gerard’s is an amalgamation of Roslea and Aghadrumsee.
