Fermanagh U20 Football Manager Maurice McLoughlin has informed Fermanagh GAA that does not intent to continue in the role as U20 manger. We sincerely thank Maurice for his work and commitment over the last 7 years, between U20 and Minor teams. Also we express our gratitude and thanks to all the various members of Maurice’s backroom teams over the years, and we wish them all well in the future.
The process for selecting a new U20 football manager will commence in line with the normal Fermanagh GAA process for selecting managers.
Statement by Maurice McLaughlin outgoing U20 Football Manager
I have taken the decision to step down as Fermanagh 20s manager. After 7 years between minors and 20s I do think it is time for a new voice in the role. When Fergal O’Connor encouraged me to apply for the minor job 2018 after having left the club scene I was unsure but will be grateful to him for his perseverance and he became a big part of my first management team along with Brendan Drummond and Niall McElroy. We brought Mark McHugh in, in year two and this helped to bring about a very successful two years reaching Ulster semi finals in both minors and 20s in 2021. For intervening years although maybe not as successful on the field I do feel along with management teams which consisted of Colm Bradley, Aiden McElroy, Niall Smyth, Patrick Treanor, Barry Mulrone, Johnny Feeley, Fergal Quinn, Ryan Jones, Ryan Meehan and a man who was constantly by my side Gerard O’Brien, we managed to develop many players and create a pathway to co senior football.
To our kit men Gabrial Ferguson, Stephen McLaughlin, Killian McManus and Anthony Donagher; Physio Arlene Brock a huge thanks.
To the County Board Officers Brian Armitage, Tom Boyle, Sean Burns and Greg Kelly along with Deirdre Felloni also whose support was unwavering another massive thanks.
This has been such an enjoyable part of my GAA journey but as I said earlier I do feel it is time for a new voice for what promises to be an exciting time for Fermanagh GAA at underage, with Stephen McElrone such a welcome addition to drive things on at all levels, and I suppose personally to embrace new challenges whatever they may be.
Thank you especially to all the players over the years, it has been a pleasure coaching you and I look forward to seeing many of you in the county jersey in the future.
Finally, to my wife Maurise and family thank you for your constant love and support.
Maurice McLaughlin
