Under-21 Challenge game
Down 1-6 v Fermanagh 0-7
Fermanagh stepped up their preparation for the Ulster Under-21 Championship with a fully committed and robust challenge game on Saturday last against Down.
The game played on the wet Abbey CBS pitch in Newry seen Down and Fermanagh go in at the break 0-3 apiece with the 3 first half points from the Erne men all coming from placed balls from Teemore’s Eoin McManus.
Fermanagh had the breeze for the second half but as the game wore on it was clear to be seen the conditions were making the game difficult to play in as the pitch cut up in numerous different areas.
Sean Keenan (pictured) of Lisnaskea supplied two well struck points for Fermanagh but the all important Down goal came in the 52nd minute from Daniel McCarthy to push his side 3 points clear.
Tommy O’Hara done well to get up the field to land a fine individual score in the 55th minute and Newtownbutler’s Jason Flanagan added a further point but it was to be the final score of the game as Down held on to win by 2 points.
Fermanagh’s big test comes with Monaghan away on Wednesday March 16th in the Ulster Under-21 Championship. The Farney County 3 years ago won the Ulster Minor Championship so it is clear Pete McGrath and his players will face an extremely tough obstacle against the Oriel county.
Fermanagh Scorers – Eoin McManus 0-3, Sean Keenan 0-2, Tommy O’Hara 0-1, Jason Flanagan 0-1.
