So this weekend moves into round 5 of the Fermanagh Senior Football League Division 1 and Division 2.
Already Division 1 has seen a host of big name teams struggling early on while Irvinestown and Teemore appear to have started the season quite superbly along with Erne Gaels.
Division 2 is a mixed bag with the same teams once again struggling at the bottom and St Patricks Donagh and Kinawley flying high at the top.
SFL Division 1
Irvinestown v Derrygonnelly = One of the biggest games this weekend takes place on Thursday night as Shane Goan’s Irvinestown side who have started the season superbly well welcome Martin Greene’s Derrygonnelly Harps. It’s a game that will really test this Irvinestown side.
Teemore v Roslea = Teemore have started well this year and are still unbeaten. Roslea have only lost the one game from 4 and it’s expected there will be very little between the sides here.
Maguiresbridge v Tempo = Fermanagh hurlers on Saturday may affect the Maguiresbridge line-up but this is a game Tempo really need something out of. The Maguire’s have still to pick up a win from 4 games and this is a testing encounter for them.
Erne Gaels v Ederney St Josephs = Erne Gaels currently top the league and will fancy their chances of claiming two further points at home. Ederney have been hit and miss this year while new manager Aidy Gilroy is still learning as the games progress.
Devenish v Belcoo = With news sides making major headway in this year’s division 1 it is now the big name sides such as Devenish and Belcoo who have struggled. This is 8th v 10th and the loser of this West Fermanagh derby may be in serious trouble already.
SFL Division 2
Enniskillen v Derrylin = Both sides sit below mid table and really need to get going in this division before the Donagh’s and Kinawley’s of this league are gone out of sight.
Brookeborough v Kinawley = Brookeborough are bottom and pointless from 4. Kinawley are top and have 4 wins from 4. Anything other than a Kinawley win would be a sever shock.
Belnaleck v Coa = Two sides who are struggling in the bottom 3 of Division 2. Coa had a superb result last day out when they defeated local neighbours Enniskillen. Belnaleck are always tough at home and this game could be a toss of a coin.
St Patricks Donagh v Newtownbutler = Donagh have won 3 from 3 and will know that they will be severely tested at home on Friday night. Newtownbutler had a superb win over Derrylin on Sunday and will come into this game high of confidence. It’s a derby and it’s a tough one to call.
Lisnaskea v Aghadrumsee = Lisnaskea have not hit the ground running after last season’s relegation while new manager Aidan McElroy has started surprisingly well with his Aghadrumsee side. Both sides are still in the top part of the league table and both have strong aspirations of collecting both points here.
So there you have it, after the Irvinestown v Derrygonnelly game on Thursday we then move into 9 league games on Friday night. A wedding in Derrygonnelly meaning the game is changed.
The next fixture in the league will be Friday May 13th so it will be 2 weeks without football for all teams, the May 13th fixture being without the 26 players that will be in the squad to face Antrim on Sunday May 15th.
Plenty of games to look forward to and we wish all 20 clubs the very best of luck.
