Senior Football Championship Semi Final reports

Derrygonnelly 1-14 v Devenish 0-9

Derrygonnelly were to go in at half time losing 0-6 to 0-5 but an irresistible second half performance seen the Harps side qualify for a first SFC Final since 2009.

Devenish started the brighter and led 0-5 to 0-1 with scores coming from John O’Flanagan, JJ O’Brien, Ruairi Maguire, Jason Love and Martin O’Brien.

Derrygonnelly though finished the half with more zip as points from Ryan Jones, Conall Jones and Declan Cassidy closed the gap to one at the break.

Derrygonnelly started the second half brilliantly with a flurry of scores and the points kept coming before the only goal of the game arrived in the 52nd minute as Paul Ward raced clear from a Gary McKenna pass to put it past goalkeeper Thomas Treacy.

John O’Flanagan tried to keep Devenish in the game but a much more determined Derrygonnelly side rightfully booked a final place for October 4th.

Erne Gaels 1-11 v Roslea 1-11

With one minute of normal time left Erne Gaels led 1-11 to 0-9 but somehow 14 man Roslea clawed their way back into this game and secured an unlikely draw right at the death as both sides must now meet again this coming weekend.

Erne Gaels started superbly and led 0-4 to no score after 10 minutes thanks to Shane Rooney, Ciaran Smyth and Barry McCann (2).

The place kicking by Sean Quigley throughout was magnificent and it was his frees that kept Roslea on Erne Gaels heels before Brendan Sherlock and Seamus Quigley pointed to give Roslea a 0-7 to 0-5 half time lead.

Erne Gaels went 0-8 to 0-7 ahead in the second half with Ryan Lyons and Shane Rooney (2) before Ryan Lyons capitalised on a Roslea kick out and went ahead 1-10 to 0-8.

Erne Gaels supporters would have been dreaming of a Final place but slowly but Roslea had other ideas and got back into the game as a Sean Quigley fisted goal and points from the same player gave Roslea another chance as the experience they have mustered in the last few years really shown through.
