Senior Football League – Round 4 Previews
DIVISION 1
Irvinestown v Erne Gaels = A 1st v 2nd top of the table clash is the pick of Sunday’s meeting’s in the Fermanagh SFL with all games taking place at 1pm. Irvinestown are slowly becoming the Leicester City of Fermanagh club football and a win here would be a huge statement in to all Fermanagh clubs. Maurice McLaughlin has Erne Gaels going well, hard to beat and a dogged side with a strong sub bench to call upon. This game is a hard one to call.
Tempo v Derrygonnelly = Tempo are still searching for a first victory while the Harps will be coming into the game fresh having no game on Friday night due to Maguiresbridge players being involved with the Fermanagh hurling side. The Harps threw away a win against Erne Gaels on day one but put in a fine performance against Devenish in round 2. Going to Tempo is never easy for any club.
Roslea v Belcoo = Belcoo need to pick up something quick or they will be in a relegation fight from early on. It’s not an easy fixture going to Roslea and with the Shamrocks picking up both points on offer against Devenish on Friday night it seems like Brian Gormley has slowly got to grips with Fermanagh club football.
Maguiresbridge v Devenish = Maguiresbridge are the only division 1 side to pick up a point, although they have only played 2 games. Devenish have the one win from 3 games having had back to back defeats to Derrygonnelly and Roslea in a matter of 6 days. This is a tough game to call, the loser of this may find themselves in trouble early on.
Ederney v Teemore = Ederney picked up their first points on Friday night and will try to cap off a perfect weekend with a further two points on Sunday. Teemore have still to be defeated this season with a win and two draws. Have Ederney turned a corner or can Teemore keep an unbeaten record going, an interesting tussle awaits.
DIVISION 2
Aghadrumsee v Belnaleck = A game in which both sides have the capability of winning. Aghadrumsee have impressed with a draw against Enniskillen and a win over Derrylin on Friday. Belnaleck a bit Jekyll and Hyde, this one’s a toss of a coin clash.
Kinawley v Lisnaskea = Whoever wants to get promoted will have to win this one. Kinawley have impressed with 3 wins from 3. Lisnaskea’s blip against Donagh last Sunday gives cause for concern.
Derrylin v Newtownbutler = Two sides who are sitting equal in the table. Played 2, won 1 and lost 1. Both lost on Friday night so the loser here has had a weekend to forget. It’s a tough one to call.
Brookeborough v St Patricks Donagh = At the moment there is no stopping Donagh. Brookeborough on the other hand just can’t get going. All bets point to a Donagh win, Fermanagh club football however doesn’t do certainties.
Coa v Enniskillen = Enniskillen sit nicely in 4th place and are playing good football with a solid win on Friday night proving that the younger generation are taking to Senior football well. Coa have played 2 and lost 2 and this game will be another serious test for the home side. Enniskillen are expected to be victorious.
So there you have it, come Sunday 3pm we will have round 4 over us. The 1pm starts are on trial for a month and let’s hope they are here to stay as its perfect for the club player getting back to a young family or a working man getting up to Belfast or Dublin 2 hours earlier.
Full credit to CCC for getting the games running and let’s hope it continues, we are all voluntary supporters trying to promote Fermanagh GAA and this must always be remembered.
