As you know, Congress made significant changes to the structure of both the football and hurling championships for 2018. CCCC put considerable work into the scheduling of inter-county fixtures so that the month of April is set aside for club activity only. It is extremely important that counties use the five weekends in that month fully to get club activity off to a good start.
In advance of the commencement of the Allianz Leagues on 27th/28th January, I would also like to remind you of key provisions in Rules 6.22 and 6.41:
Rule 6.22 ….Senior Inter-County Panels shall not be permitted to go on ‘training weekends’ or training of longer duration after the final of Division One of their respective National League has been played, except during the 10 days’ period prior to a Senior Championship Game …..
Rule 6.41 ….. after the conclusion of a National Hurling or Football League, an Inter-County Challenge game in that code may only be played on a Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday (except within periods specified in Rule 6.22 (a) when Inter-County players are not expected to fulfill Inter-Club Championship games).
The penalty for breach of the above rules is forfeit of home venue for next ‘home game’ in the respective Allianz League.
Central Council, on an annual basis, allocates distribution grant of over €200,000 to each county under various guises. This funding is provided on the basis that the county complies with Rules, Regulations and Directives of Central Council. Breaches of either of the rules above will be regarded as breach of the rules under which this grant is paid.
Please remind your County Committee and relevant team managers of these rules.
