Lisbellaw will need to be at best to make final says Corrigan

Lisbellaw will go in search of an Ulster Intermediate final spot on Sunday when they come up against Armagh outfit Cuchullainns in Clones.

The side produced a good second half performance to overcome Burt in the quarter-final as they got the monkey off their back by winning their first game in the Intermediate Championship following their Junior Championship title success in 2008.

And joint manager Kevin Corrigan is keen for the side to take another step forward on Sunday.

“We’re looking forward to it and we’ll be hoping to make it through to the final,” said Corrigan. “Since winning the Junior title in 2008 we hadn’t won a match in the Intermediate so there was a bit of pressure to get that win against Burt. We managed to achieve that and everything else now is a bonus although we are still aiming to go on and get through to the final.”

The Fermanagh champions are familiar with their Armagh opponents having faced them twice this year in the Armagh League, and although Cuchullianns shaded both encounters, Corrigan is hoping to reverse that on this occasion with a close game expected.

“They won both the games by a point but both teams were probably missing players in those games. There shouldn’t be much in it on Sunday but hopefully this time we will come out on the right side of the result,” said Corrigan, who manages the side along with Peter McEvoy.

Lisbellaw will have to do without the injured Rory Porteous, who has a broken bone in the foot, for the game, while Brendan McGarry will undergo a late fitness test due to a hamstring problem. And Corrigan is aware that it is going to take a massive performance if Lisbellaw are to secure their place in the final.

“It is going to require a 60 minute performance from everybody who plays. It will be played at championship pace and we will need to be at our best if we are to progress to the final,” he said.
