The LGFA and GAA are proud to announce a new partnership with Mount Lourdes Grammar School, Enniskillen, aimed at expanding sporting opportunities for students and strengthening the promotion of girls’ participation in Gaelic games.

The initiative was officially launched at a special school assembly in October celebrating student sporting achievements. During the event, staff and guests outlined how the collaboration will enhance physical education, coaching, and community engagement at Mount Lourdes.

Speaking at the launch on Monday, October 20, Michelle Judge, Acting Vice Principal, described the partnership as an exciting step forward:

“It’s an exciting time for us — a time where we hope we can provide more sporting opportunities for every single young person who attends Mount Lourdes.”

As part of the partnership, a dedicated Gaelic coach will be based at the school for two and a half days each week, delivering a wide range of inclusive sporting activities designed to develop students’ confidence and skills in Gaelic games, regardless of their experience level.

Mrs Judge explained:

“Our coach will provide inclusive sport opportunities at break and lunch times, Gaelic games sessions, and try-out events for students who may not currently participate in any sport. She will also assist with coaching our three Gaelic football teams — Under 14, Under 16, and Under 20.”

In addition to team coaching, the partnership will support the creation of development squads, ensuring all students have opportunities to represent their school and compete at a suitable level.

“Perhaps more importantly,” Mrs Judge added, “she will help us to establish development teams so that those who aren’t currently on school teams still get the chance to play and compete — which is vital for our future.”

The launch event was attended by representatives from the Fermanagh GAA and LGFA, including Gerry McCabe (Board of Governors), Eimear Smyth (Special Guest), Teresa McNabb (Fermanagh GAA), Conor Meehan (LGFA), Brendan Rogers (LGFA), Deirdre Donnelly (PE Teacher), and Sinead Cullen (Principal). Also present were Kiera Owen (Head of PE), Michelle Judge (Acting Vice Principal), and students Lola Rose Maguire, Ella McAleer, Áine Mohan, Kacey Gallagher, and Eva Donnelly.

As part of the wider community engagement element of the partnership, a Female Development Camp took place on October 27, focusing on mental health, nutrition, and physical fitness. This initiative highlights the shared commitment of the LGFA, GAA, and Mount Lourdes to promoting wellbeing alongside athletic development.

“This partnership ushers in a new era between Mount Lourdes, the GAA, and the LGFA in Fermanagh,” said Mrs Judge.
“We share a common goal — to ensure that all young people in Fermanagh can develop their sporting skills, particularly in Gaelic games, and experience the pride of playing in many colours.”

Dual star Megan McCann, who represents Eugene Quinn Handball Club and Clann Éireann LGFA Club has been appointed to the role. Megan is a national handball champion and also plays intercounty football for Armagh.

Her appointment brings a wealth of experience in both Gaelic football and handball, and she will be based at the school for two and a half days each week, delivering a wide range of inclusive sporting activities designed to develop students’ confidence and skills in Gaelic games, regardless of their experience level.
