Jim McGuigan Under-17 Development Football Ulster League
Fermanagh 2-12 v Antrim 2-5
After an opening day defeat against a strong Donegal side in Ballyshannon. Fermanagh Under 17s recorded a comfortable 7 point victory against Antrim in Derrygonnelly last Saturday afternoon.
Fermanagh where in control from the start with Gareth Deery being the main threat creating and scoring a number of attacks in the first 15 minutes of the game including a well taken goal and three fantastic points.
Tempo’s Lorcan McStravick was also a threat to Antrim in the first half, while Callum Jones work rate and energy caused serious problems for the away team.
The stand out performers for Fermanagh in defence in the first half was corner back Conor McDermott who continued on from his good game against Donegal and Aidy McKenna at wing half back who has continues to impress.
The 2nd half started brightly for Antrim when a high ball into the Fermanagh goals resulted in a goal for the visitors, but Edereny’s Pol McKervey replied with a fantastic solo run and finished it with a powerful shot into the bottom corner and from that goal Fermanagh where in total control to the finish.
Fermanagh’s attack started to shine as the game progressed with all 6 starting attackers scoring as well as subs James Boyle and Barry McPhillips getting a point each. While in defence Maguire, Doherty and McQuaid kept Antrim at bay.
The Under 17’s now have a break from the Ulster League but up next will be an away clash to table toppers Tyrone on Saturday April 2nd.
Phil O’Connor and Emmett Conlon’s team have shown good positive displays in their opening two games of the Ulster league and will be hopeful of a big result away to the much fancied Tyrone side in Omagh.
