As a result of the involvement of Belnaleck and Derrygonnelly in this Sunday’s Ulster Club Championship Semi Finals (12:15 and 2pm in Clones), we have taken the decision not to play any U21 Championship games this weekend. We apologise for the inconvenience that this decision may cause for U21 players and team mentors, who turned out in great numbers for yesterday’s games.
Our basis for this decision is that:
(1) it would be unfair on Derrygonnelly to ask them to play an U21 game on the same weekend as such an important Senior Championship game;
(2) playing two out of the three games will leave two teams playing catch up and trying to squeeze another game in at short notice at an inconvenient time for players;
(3) there is considerable interest amongst Gaels across the county to support our club teams in this ambitious endeavour on Sunday and playing these games would impact on the ability of some people to do that such as players, mentors, spectators and match officials; and
(4) rearranging the games to Friday/Saturday, at short notice, may not suit those who committed to playing the games at 12:00 on Sundays and may cause games to be conceded due to the unavailability of players, which we want to avoid.
The next round of fixtures will therefore take place on Sunday 19th November at 12:00pm.
