Derrygonnelly 2-11 v Teemore 0-6
With the Championship trophy already claimed a fortnight ago Derrygonnelly were to add the Division 1 league crown to make it a ‘Double Double’ season with a fully deserving 11 point victory over 14 man Teemore in Brewster Park on Saturday evening.
It was all one way traffic in the first half with Derrygonnelly running freely at the Teemore defence with points from Stephen McGullion, Garvan Jones, Maurice Cassidy, Leigh Jones, Neil Gallagher and Paul Ward. Add in two first half goals from the excellent Garvan Jones and the equally impressive Stephen McGullion and it was Derrygonnelly who looked destined to claim the Division 1 title.
Just before the half time whistle Barry Owens was to see red which left Teemore facing the entire 2nd half with just 14 players at 2-6 to 0-0.
Credit to Teemore who came out for the second half to kick the opening 4 points via Jason McCaffrey, Eoin McManus (2) and Damien Maguire but the mother of all comebacks just never looked possible.
Derrygonnelly added points through brothers Maurice and Kevin Cassidy while Eoin McManus and Conall Jones exchanged points to leave it 2-9 to 0-5 with 6 minutes remaining.
As the neutrals left the Brewster Park venue Derrygonnelly added a further score from Garvan Jones before Teemores Eoin McManus and a superb effort from captain Ryan Jones capped a fine night for Derrygonnelly.
Teemore can have zero complaints.
Its another double for Derrygonnelly and they will make the trip to Derry on Sunday October 30th to face Slaughtneil or Loup in the Ulster Club Championship in a quietly confident manner of pulling off an upset.
