Senior Football League Division 1
Irvinestown 2-9 v Derrygonnelly 0-21
Derrygonnelly were to move into joint second place, albeit for 24 hours with a 6 point victory over Irvinestown who picked up their first defeat of the season.
This game was a clash between the 2015 Senior and Intermediate Champions and it was the away side that started brighter with Leigh Jones, Conall Jones and Paul Ward pushing Derrygonnelly ahead.
The game was point for point throughout the first half with Irvinestown picking off some fine scores from Gary Maguire, Rory Cassidy and Michael Mahon.
Liam McQuaid was black carded late in the first half as Derrygonnelly stretched ahead late on but a Gary Maguire goal right on the stroke of half time brought Irvinestown right back into the game, 1-5 to 0-11 at the break.
Derrygonnelly were much the superior side in the second half with Paul Ward and Jonathan McGurn scoring some beautiful points.
Stephen Sheridan, James Duffy and Gary Maguire kept Irvinestown within touching distance but Paul Ward was to the fore for the Harps finishing on a personal tally of 0-8 on the night.
Irvinestown finished the game with a second goal, this time a Shane Goan high ball being forced into the net by Eamon McCarney but it was to only be a consolation as Derrygonnelly secured a third win on the bounce.
