No doubting it that Derrylin were handed the short straw for the 2015 Fermanagh SFC with a Quarter final clash against kingpins Roslea Shamrocks to look forward to in late August.
The Derrylin side have waited two decades to participate in Fermanagh’s top tier and a baptism of fire awaits, although the 2014 Fermanagh Senior and Intermediate champions clashing does draw up a novel pairing. Many will see the game as a possible mismatch with Derrylin once again plying their trade in division 2 of the Senior football league.
The pick of the other three clashes in the Quarter finals is without doubt the meeting of St Josephs Ederney and Derrygonnelly Harps, both these sides will have strong aspirations of winning the 2015 SFC and with Ederney winning the 2013 division 1 league title and Derrygonnelly reaching the 2014 league decider there is plenty of evidence to suggest these two quality outfits will most likely produce a titanic championship battle with little separating them.
Last year’s League Division 1 semi-finalists, Devenish and St Patricks Donagh have also been paired off together and both will rightfully have the ingredients to make an inward curve in this year’s Championship.
The last Quarter final meeting and probably the least prolific clash is that of Tempo and Erne Gaels. Neither side have really set the world alight in the last couple of seasons so this really is a game that could go either way.
An interesting SFC awaits and a lot to look forward to.
