There will be a sea of change with Schools football next season with the Vocational section now moving to a grading system rather than the County by County schedule that has been the norm since I can remember.

One thing that certainly won’t change on the football field is how tough it is now for schools to win the MacRory Cup.

For the 2016/2017 season it has now enlarged to three sections and St Michaels Enniskillen after a Quarter Final defeat in the 2015/2016 season have been drawn in the Group of four sides with favourites St Patrick’s Maghera alongside the Fermanagh school.

Group A – Patrician High Carrickmacross, St Mary’s Magherafelt, St Colman’s Newry, Omagh CBS & St Patrick’s Cavan.

Group B – St Ronan’s Lurgan, St Paul’s Bessbrook, St Patrick’s Dungannon, Abbey CBS Newry & St Macartan’s Monaghan.

Group C – St Patrick’s Armagh, St Michael’s Enniskillen, St Patrick’s Maghera & St Mary’s Belfast.

For now the players will be off on holidays and looking forward to the Summer. Come September though it will be the start of another football season throughout all the schools of Ulster.
