Fermanagh Schools Vocational Under-16 Final
St Josephs Enniskillen 1-8 v St Comghalls Lisnaskea 0-5
St Josephs were to win a last ever Fermanagh Vocational U16 grade schools title with a double score margin win over their Lisnaskea counterparts, the game played at a blustery Brewster Park, Enniskillen on Friday morning.
St Comghalls who were the holders before the game can look back to a dreadful first half that seen them held scoreless and it wasn’t until a late goal from the Enniskillen school that made sure of the win.
St Josephs bossed the entire first half with some fine scores that seen them lead 0-8 to 0-0.
Ethan Beresford, Ryan Cassidy, Callum Jones and another fine score from Enniskillen Gaels attacker Ethan Beresford who had a fantastic game gave them a comfortable 0-4 to 0-0 lead mid way through the opening half.
St Comghalls were having chances but they were coming up against a sturdy St Josephs back line that seen great performances coming from Derrygonnelly’s Ronan McHugh and Tempo’s Ronan McCaffrey.
St Josephs pushed on with ten minutes remaining of the opening half with points coming from wing half back Sean Cassidy, midfielder Jack Love and Ethan Beresford and Ryan Cassidy to go in at the break 8 points up.
St Comghalls needed a response early in the second half and through Cameron McBrien they got that, he was to hit 3 points in a 6 minute spell to bring the Lisnaskea school back into it and when Aaron Copeland done well to come up from defence to point it cut the Enniskillen school’s lead to just 4 points.
McBrien who was excellent throughout then pointed his 4th of the day to make it 0-8 to 0-5 but the equalising goal that St Comghalls so badly craved did not look like coming.
Instead deep into injury time, a St Josephs attack seen midfielders Jack Love and Callum Jones combine before Ben Holden’s shot was saved and the rebound fell kindly to Ethan Beresford who was on hand to bury his shot to the net to give St Josephs a tad overwhelming double scores victory.
After the game Greg Kelly thanked both sides for a terrific sporting game and the great crowd that was packed into the Brewster Park stands.
St Joseph’s Enniskillen – Ethan Beresford 1-3, Ryan Cassidy 0-2, Callum Jones 0-1, Sean Cassidy 0-1 and Jack Love 0-1.
St Comghall’s Lisnaskea – Cameron McBrien 1-4 and Aaron Copeland 0-1.
Referee – Martin Higgins (Lisnaskea Emmetts)
